For the second straight day, track and series officials were forced to put an early end to the race program scheduled at Can-Am Motorsports Park.

The announcement to drop the 2010 Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series opener on Sunday, April 18 was delivered Saturday afternoon as intermittent rain and cold temperatures continued to plague the northern New York State region. A new date for a return to Can-Am is being sought at this time.

“We made the decision to cancel early because it really isn’t a good situation for anyone,” remarked Can-Am General Manager Chip Burdick, alluding to the saturated grounds after two days of rain and an overnight forecast that includes snow flurries, with even colder temperatures expected on Sunday.

“The track is a mess, the pits are a mess, and to bring everyone in here will just make it worse. It’s supposed to rain more today and into tomorrow, and with our early starting time there is just no way the place will be dried out in time,” Burdick added.

Racing in the Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series resumes next month when Cornwall Motor Speedway hosts the new opener on Sunday, May 23. Top full-fender pilots will be after the $1,000 first-place prize posted in the Canadian Nationals 50-lapper presented by Minute Auto Wash at Ron Morin’s quick quarter-miler.
